Therapy Careers
This course is an integration of Kinesiology, medical terminology and Anatomy and Physiology. The Therapy Careers Cluster offers an introduction to careers in the allied health fields of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Massage Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Sports Medicine. It includes the study of the concepts that serve as the foundation for therapeutic professions, including client care and safety issues, basic client monitoring, and health documentation methods. Basic skills such as vital signs, gait training, application of modalities, range of motion, athletic taping and fitness testing are taught and required to be demonstrated by the student and integrated with critical thinking skills. Medical terminology is included.
Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine is a full year course which is designed for students interested in fields such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, fitness, physiology of exercise, kinesiology, nutrition, and other sports medicine related fields. The course includes class work and practical hands-on application in the following areas: prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries, taping and wrapping of injuries, first aid/CPR, emergency procedures, nutrition, sports psychology, anatomy and physiology, fitness/conditioning/ strength programs, and sports medicine careers. The course also offers practical experiences with local sports medicine specialists. The Sports Medicine course is designed to be taken in conjunction with the Sports Medicine Internship. The course is open to seniors who have successfully completed the Therapy Careers Cluster their junior year.
